PUBLIC NOTICE: REQUEST FOR PUBLIC COMMENTS ON DRAFT REGULATIONS – RMI SOCIAL SUPPORT SCHEME REGULATIONS 2025

The Marshall Islands Social Security Administration (MISSA) hereby announces the availability of the Draft RMI Social Support Scheme Regulations 2025 for public review and comment. These draft regulations are proposed pursuant to Section 213 of the RMI Social Support Scheme Act 2023, and are intended to govern the administration, eligibility, benefit structure, financial management, and oversight of the Social Support Scheme. The Scheme aims to provide non-contributory financial assistance to qualifying elderly citizens and persons with disabilities in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

On December 11, 2024, a worker from Blue Pacific Enterprises, Inc. suffered a fatal fall at a construction site and later died, sparking a dispute over the lack of workers’ compensation coverage. Despite previous warnings for non-compliance, the company denied employment of the deceased, leading MISSA to file legal action for failing to pay due compensation and benefits.

MISSA’s Investment Committee to start more proactive oversight of the Retirement Fund

The new MISSA Board has appointed four of its members and the Administrator to serve as core members of the Administration’s Investment Committee. The Committee’s role is one of strategic direction and oversight of MISSA’s investments, both locally and outside the country. It is responsible for the operational implementation and execution of its Investment Policy Statement.
