MISSA celebrates Retirees' Day & 53rd Foundation Day

Today is a special day for the Administration as we celebrate our 53rd foundation day and 18th Retirees’ Day.

In 2003, then President Kessai Note and his Cabinet approved and declared July 1st of every year as “Retirees’ Day” as tribute to all retired senior and disabled citizens who have served the Marshall Islands in various employment capacities in the Government and private Sectors.

The Cabinet also approved that July 1st shall serve as MISSA’s anniversary date, as it was on July 1, 1968 when the Trust Territory Social Security System (TTSSS) was first established.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, today’s special day was celebrated briefly and without the day-long, traditional festivities that the retirees used to enjoy in the past. Mr. Elmer Langbata, President of the Marshall Islands Retirees’ Association was invited to grace the occasion. Dozens of retirees who passed by the MISSA office to pick up their June benefit checks were treated with sandwiches and refreshments.

Happy 53rd Anniversary, MISSA!
