MISSA Starts Beneficiary Screening

Pursuant to Section 146 of the Social Security Act (the “Act”) found at 49 MIRC 146, the Administration may, at any time, require a person receiving any benefit under this Chapter to provide evidence to the satisfaction of the Administration of his entitlement to such benefit. If the evidence required under Subsection (1) of this Section is not produced within the time fixed by the Administrator, she may suspend payment of the benefit until such time as the required evidence is produced.

  1. MISSA is now in the process of identifying beneficiaries who may:
    • No longer qualified for continued entitlement as they may have passed away;
    • Have remarried (for surviving spouses);
    • Have found gainful work/employment (for medical retirees);
    • Have stopped going to school (for surviving children aged 18 to 22 years);
    • Have left the RMI permanently (for non-citizens).
  2. There are two (2) different ways for beneficiaries to complete this requirement:
    1. By online survey: The user will just need to click the Google form link via announcement in the MISSA website below or Facebook and will be redirected to the Google forms that contains all the questions and instructions.
    2. Manual upload of scanned completed survey form to direct email to MISSA or through postal services: The retiree just needs to download the survey form (PDF file) from the MISSA website below, fill it up, scan and send to MISSA (missabeneficiarysurvey@rmimissa.org).
  3. The completed questionnaire must be notarized if the person/beneficiary completing the form is currently outside the Marshall Islands. If the Notary Public is Marshallese and is an immediate family member of the beneficiary, the beneficiary may look for another Notary Public to avoid conflict of interest.
  4. Surviving children who have not yet attained the age of twenty-two (22) and are bona fide students
    are required to provide MISSA with valid certificates of school attendance (the form is available at
    MISSA). Failure to submit the required document shall lead to the suspension of their benefits.
  5. For non-resident retirees who are currently working/residing in the RMI, please report to the MISSA
    office and bring your valid passport to update our system.
  6. Failure to complete and submit the completed questionnaire by December 31, 2022 may result in the suspension of your future benefit checks until this information is received by MISSA.

For further information, please contact our Claims Department at 625-3101 or our Ebeye office at 329-3788.

All beneficiaries concerned are enjoined to cooperate and comply with these guidelines to avoid delay in the release of their benefit checks.
